British Pigeon Show Society NPA National Show
6th-7th December 2008
The British Pigeon Show Society during 2008 reaches the milestone of 60 years since being set up after the Second World War by leading fanciers of the time wanting to offer the whole Fancy a major 2 day fancy pigeon show. Throughout those 60 years the BPSS has with the support of fanciers all over the country, continued to put on the countries leading Championship Show that is renown throughout the world. To celebrate our Diamond Jubilee Anniversary the BPSS committee hope to put on a special event which the whole fancy can be proud of. Along with this occasion the BPSS are extremely proud to tie up with the National Pigeon Association in hosting the NPA’s National Championship Show, which should make the event even more prestigious.
Last year the BPSS moved from Doncaster Racecourse to its new venue at the Northern Events Arena near Pickering in North Yorkshire. This venue was very well received by all who attended the show and has excellent space and lighting, with plenty of free parking right out side the door. There are plenty of Hotels and Guest Houses in the locality with several major tourist attractions within a few miles radius, whilst the shopping centres of York and Scarborough are less than 24 miles away. The date of this years show is Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th December, plus we have an alternate date of the first full weekend in February 2009 in case there are problems with bird flu. All NPA members will receive a show schedule and any other fanciers wishing to enter, just visit or wanting accommodation details can contact me at 98 Langton Rd, Norton, Malton, North Yorkshire, YO17 9AE or e-mail at richardsnuns@aol.com.
At the show there will be on offer an impressive array of BPSS and NPA cups, trophies and specials, plus many more awards and specials put on by various Breed Clubs and individuals.
Over 14 Breed Clubs are holding their clubs shows at Pickering with several other Breed Clubs also holding regional shows, and there should be the usual large sale section. Unlike most Championship shows our show prides itself on the single tier pen layout with plenty of room between the aisles which makes viewing the birds, judging and indeed the whole show so much better to see. Some breed clubs also put on displays and there are trade stands in attendance selling all types of pigeon related goods from corn mixtures to baskets.
I am pleased to say that most prices at the show have been held the same as for last year with some even being reduced. Therefore the main entry fee remains at £3.00 per exhibit. The 4 bird Star class, the 3 pair class and the matched pair class remain at £3.50 per exhibit, whilst to help promote the young fanciers, the entry fee has been reduced from £2.00 to £1.50. More effort is also being made to ensure that only true young fanciers enter in these classes. The show catalogue has also been reduced in price from last year. As usual exhibitors making 10 entries or more will receive one free admission ticket per day. There are also concessions too this year for OAP’s and families paying at the door and reductions for pre-payment with entries via the schedule entry form. Breed Clubs can book meeting space, stands and adverts, with exhibitors also able to book adverts and sale pens. Full show information will be available in the show schedule when published in early September.
Both the BPSS and the NPA committees invite all fanciers to enter or visit the show this coming December and make the event a truly memorable occasion.
